With mega successes that include becoming the first artist to top all five Billboard charts for multiple weeks, all five singles off his EP This One’s For You topping the charts plus earning Gold and Platinum status including “She Got The Best of Me” and “Beautiful Crazy” from the re-release deluxe edition This One’s For You Too, Luke Combs has hit the country music industry like a freight train. And he just became the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.

To say that this North Carolina native is on a roll is an epic understatement; Combs’ is headed to full on boil.  With the release of his latest EP The Prequel, Combs is gearing towards another triumphant year.

Released June 7, The Prequel has already earned 11 million streams of its first single “Beer Never Broke My Heart,” setting a record for the best first week. All five tracks are all co-writes by Combs and feature upbeat tempos and a few tender-hearted ones.

A fan favorite from Combs’ live shows, “Refrigerator Door” is a solid tune detailing a life in pictures; memories placed on the fridge as a routine statement of cherished times from Polaroids of the first day of school to a collection of magnets from travels.  The song flows like a classic country story, added with the raspy twang and very creative songwriting, taking every listener back to their own childhood:

“‘Cause they’re just pictures / Hanging side by side / Forgotten memories / From another time / Just the places that I’ve been before / Couple of magnets, recipes, and Polaroids
Yeah, but that’s my life on the refrigerator door.”

“Even Though I’m Leaving” is a tenderhearted song between a father and son at different parts of their lives; a child who was fearful to go to bed alone becomes a man joining the military who then experiences his last moments with his father, all while in each chorus his father reassures him that he’d be right with him, in person and then in spirit. The songwriting is perfect, pulling the heartstrings, thus creating a vision of this tender, albeit uplifting conversation that’s taking place:

“Just ’cause I’m leavin’
It don’t mean that I won’t be right by your side
When you need me
And you can’t see me in the middle of the night
Just close your eyes and say a prayer
It’s okay, boy, I ain’t scared
I won’t be here, but I’ll always be right there
Even though I’m leavin’, I ain’t goin’ nowhere
I ain’t goin’ nowhere”

With an edgier, bluesy country vibe, “Lovin On Youdetails all the things he enjoys, but strives to make the point that what he loves most is his woman:

“Don’t get me wrong, I like a bobber on the water / Hookin’ ‘em and realin’ ‘em in / I like a Friday night slow ride / Brooks & Dunn B-Side / But I’m in love with lovin on you / I feel that rush soon as you walk in the room / I can’t get enough of you, honey / You’re right on the money / I’m a junkie for your midnight moves / I’m in love with lovin on you.”

Another fan favorite, “Moon Over Mexico” is a love song shares the story of a romantic vacation and the memories that remain, rounding out an awesome album.

The Prequel is as solid as Combs’ first releases and will undoubtedly produce some, if not five, more hits.

The EP is available for downloaded on all music sites.
