Old Dominion Analyzes Relationships With “Written In The Sand”

The last two years for Old Dominion has consisted of non-stop touring and that hard work has not gone unnoticed as the group has earned multiple award nominations, including two for this year’s CMA Awards (Vocal Group of the Year & New Artist of the Year).  And now with back-to-back #1 singles under their belt, Old Dominion follows up with “Written in the Sand,” the second single from their sophomore album Happy Endings.

When it comes to relationships, there is nothing worse than not knowing where you stand with the other person. You are left wondering if what you have will only last one night or last forever. The signals you are getting are mixed and aren’t answering your burning questions – one moment your leading me on thinking that this is going to last forever and the next minute it feels like this can all wash away. “Written in the Sand” captures all of those relationship mixed up feelings perfectly. We can be as permanent as a tattoo or just a name in the sand that disappears with the tide:

Turn me on, turn me off,
then you turn me back on by the weekend
And you won’t say the words that I want
but you flirt when you’re drinkin’

Comprised of extremely talented musicians, singers, and songwriters, Old Dominion never ceases to amaze. “Written in the Sand” has such a pure introduction with a guitar and some snapping. Lead vocalist Matthew Ramsey exhibits his polished sound as he blends his vocals to the cadence of the song.  With an easy rhythm that allows the emotions of the song to be felt, the slower speaking tempo keeps the song meaningful for the message. There is no confusion that these five guys are authentic in the music they produce and their fans appreciate it.

“Written in the Sand” and Happy Endings are available where all digital media is sold.
