In a time when the importance of women in country music is perhaps at its pinnacle, it’s refreshing to see more and more female talent surface.  Names like Lindsay Ell, Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce come to mind. Add to that list Robin April, a 23-year old singer/songwriter from Servierville, Tennessee who recently released her debut single “The Trusting Kind“.

The melancholy song talks of constantly being let down in relationships, her promising herself that she will ‘never do anything like that again,’ (when you’re broken you do things you ain’t proud of), and in the end leaving her not trusting anyone:

I ain’t the trusting kind
I’m no stranger to being left behind
I want to believe there’s somebody out there that’s looking for me
With the chips on the table, who’s willing and able
With his hands in the fire, it’s all on the line
I ain’t the trusting kind

April’s vocals are beautiful; textured, warm, and somewhat reminiscent of The Band Perry‘s Kimberly Perry at times.

“The Trusting Kind” is available across all digital platforms on Friday, August 4.
