Dan + Shay Start the Year With a Little ‘Tequila’

Country music’s handsome duo of Dan + Shay have released “Tequila,” the first single from their untitled third studio album, and it’s not what one thinks when the stealthy drink is mentioned.

Penned by by the pair, Nicholle Galyon, and Jordan Reynolds, the tune centers on the drink causing memories of an old love; one that keeps creeping into the mind whenever he’s drinking the harsh liquor.  What most would consider a party anthem-esque song, “Tequila”, was drummed up by the guys who, in a recent interview, stated that “we drink a lot of Tequila … the next morning we’re like, ‘I’m never drinking tequila again’.”  So, according to Dan Smyers, they decided to take the party connotation and give it a twist – one that takes you back to another time and place in ones life.

With a gentle piano entry, Shay Mooney starts out solo, but quickly joins in with Smyers with their ever impressive harmonies.  The production and songwriting perfection paint the perfect picture of a past love:

I can still shut down a party
I can hang with anybody
I can drink whiskey and red wine
Champagne all night
Little Scotch on the rocks and I’m fine, I’m fine

When I taste Tequila
Baby, I still see ya
Cutting up the floor in a sorority T-shirt
The same one you wore when we were
Sky high in Colorado…

The drink may stir up memories, but the song will stir up crowds at a concert.  The tune is smooth and easy, but will be a great addition to any fans playlist.

“Tequila” is available for download and streaming here.

The duo was recently announced as opening acts for the Rascal Flatts “Back to Us” Tour, along with newcomer Carly Pearce this summer. For more information on Dan + Shay and the tour, visit their website: www.DanandShay.com
