Born and raised in Music City, it was a journey away from home that made Big Machine artist Levi Hummon realize singing and songwriting needed to be more than a hobby.  We caught up with up him at Stagecoach to find out a bit more about this up and coming star.

TCN: Exciting news, you just dropped your first single “Don’t Waste The Night” on Friday! What does this song mean to you?
LH: There is a lot of meaning behind it, but how the writing happened for it….. I was on the way to the writing session and I was listening to “The Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran. I fell in love with the beautiful melodies and the lyrical stuff that made you want to dance, so I took that vibe into the write. I immediately added it to my live set and it stood out in the crowd. “Don’t Waste the Night” is the single that is identifiably me, its who I am as an artist and it fits me.

TCN: You are a songwriter; your dad (Marcus Hummon) is also a songwriter. Where do you get your inspiration when you’re putting pen to paper?
LH:  I dive into a lot of things. Sometimes it’s just a great song that inspires me, or a great record that makes me grab my guitar.  A lot of the time I dive into old relationships. I write the best songs when I am sad, it makes songwriting more tangible, makes the idea of the emotions more reachable.  Heartbreak is a thing that everyone has gone through.

TCN: This is your first West Coast tour and first time being at Stagecoach? How is it going? Are you excited to perform tomorrow?
LH: I love the West Coast! I am so amazed by how much country music is out here and how real and cool it is. We have been from the northern part of the state to Indio now and it’s been amazing.  There are a lot of country music fans and music fans in general. I realized this when we were in San Francisco Tuesday night at the Fillmore. It’s a historic rock venue and it was packed to the brim and they all listened to my songs and enjoyed it (at least I think they did).  We’re playing the Mane Stage tomorrow and I have never played a stage that big in my life. I am kind of freaking out a little bit.

TCN: What was your first job?
LH: I actually never worked a real job. I went to college, and then dropped out.  Every summer I would help out my parents build floors.
