Country singer-songwriter readies fifth studio album, Born Ready
Title track released Friday (2/9)
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Singer/songwriter Steve Moakler is back in the studio working on the follow-up to his 2017 album, Steel Town, written with his hometown of Pittsburgh in mind. Naturally, a year on the road promoting that album led the Country artist to his transit-inspired, fifth studio effort, the aptly titled Born Ready, expected for release later this year. Rolling Stone Country broke the news Thursday (2/8) of the title track’s release, saying “dedicated to those who roll up their sleeves and grind the gears, the Springsteen-esque anthem is propelled by chugging guitars, pounding drums and some self-assured vocals from Moakler.” Moakler’s self-proclaimed “highway anthem” is the first taste of what’s to come and available at all digital partners today HERE.
“‘Born Ready’ is about believing that you’re built to handle the road you’re on,” explains Moakler. “I started writing this song with truck drivers in mind, but quickly realized that I was telling my own story too. Whether your job has you behind the steering wheel or not, I think the road is a perfect metaphor for life. It’s about closing the distance between where you are and where you want to be. I hope the song inspires people to hang tough and to not turn around. That’s what it does for me.”
Known for being a successful songwriter, with artists Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen, Reba McEntire and more recording his music, it’s his unique take on songs inspired by his blue-collar upbringing that makes him stand out when he sings his own. The Nashville Scene says Moakler’s writing, “has all the sounds of country — even though it came from a place without ‘farms, tractors or fields.’”
“Born Ready,” is co-written by Moakler along with well-known Nashville writers Barry Dean (Maren Morris, Michael Ray, Little Big Town) and Luke Laird (Dierks Bentley, Eric Church, Midland).
Born Ready follows the hardworking, Pittsburgh-centric Steel Town that includes fan favorites “Suitcase” that People called “romantically honest,” “Love Drunk” that AXS called “intoxicating” and the title track that Rolling Stone Country called a “wistful, mid-tempo acoustic ballad [that] pays tribute to the resilient people of his hometown just south of Pittsburgh: the factories they work in, the bars they unwind in, and the solace they take in their community.”
“Born Ready” was born out of Moakler’s partnership with Mack Trucks. The song upholds Mack Trucks’ values that they say are “hard work, commitment and passion.”
Born Ready will be released later this year on CN Records (Creative Nation Records).
