Country music is took over the Vegas Strip ahead of Sunday’s telecast of the 2017 ACM Awards, many of the stars starting their trek to the infamous strip days ahead; they blew into town, did interviews, rehearsed their performances, and some just took in some of the fun.  However, Mamma Nature wasn’t going to allow this year’s trip to happen without doing a little “blowing in” of her own.

Vegas became the target of a vicious storm on Thursday, reeking havoc with 70+mph winds and peak gusts as much as 82 mph.  This storm, which caused widespread outages, toppled semi trucks and kicked up sand, was said to have been the strongest windstorm in five years.  Fox News Vegas posted pictures of the aftermath while Death Valley NP had video of the vicious storm.

Besides all the mess it caused, flights had to be delayed or rerouted to other airports – our own correspondent was worried of an impending delayed flight into Sin City. Some flights that were allowed to fly in or out were met with an extreme amount of turbulence, obviously inconveniencing all passengers.  Some of the inconveniences were placed upon some of our finest country music stars, who took to their social pages to speak of their windy adventures.

Miranda Lambert, who’s won for Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year, took to her Twitter page to tweet about her redirected flight and how she made the best of it.  She said:  “Y’all…@ACMawards or bust!  Storms diverted our plane to Laughlin, Nevada.  So…Rent a car set…” she followed the tweet with a post to her Instagram page with a photo of her loading up a van.

Brothers Osborne, winners for Vocal Duo of the Year, tweeted this about their bumpy ride: “Someone on this flight just sprayed a lavender spray.  Feeling relaxed as hell.  Fuck off turbulence”.

New Male Vocalist of the Year nominee Chris Lane posted his ordeal on Instagram Stories of the entire plane cheering after landing in what he called the “scariest flight of all time.”

DJ Shawn Parr from Nash Night’s Live tweeted a very windy video, while adding a “Wizard of Oz” pun“It’s a little WINDY in Vegas!!  #blownaway #clickingheels @kicksomenash #ACMAWARDS”.

We’re glad that everyone made it safe and glad that the city of Las Vegas got back to some normal weather.
