Midland Shares Jukebox Story In Honor of National Jukebox Day

The Jukebox. An international icon. This symbol of good tunes and good times has a reputation that surpasses its physical size for without it, Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli would not be as cool, Pee-Wee Herman would not have danced to “Tequila” during his Big Adventure nor would Elvis rock his signature dance moves to “Mean Woman Blues” in Loving You. Since 1889, the jukebox has been providing music – and with that entertainment, culture and conversation – to people all over the globe. That’s why in 2016 the Registrar at National Day Calendar, in partnership with TouchTunes, declared the night before Thanksgiving – a night when many families and friends gather together at their local bars to enjoy drinks and music – National Jukebox Day. (It also happens to align with the anniversary of Louis Glass and William S. Arnold installing the very first jukebox at Palais Royal Saloon near San Francisco 128 years ago).

For this year’s NJD, TouchTunes launched a promotional platform allowing fans who play any song on the TouchTunes app (or on select TouchTunes jukeboxes nationwide) between November 1-22 to be automatically entered in a sweepstakes to win a $2,500 shopping spree. Also featured on their website are videos of some of music’s biggest names – including Tony Orlando, Gwen Stefani, and Carly Pearce as well as bar owners/mangers/bartenders from around the country – sharing their Jukebox Stories. Fans stories are included on the page as well.
