Karen Waldrup Scores Three NIMA Nominations

SLATED TO PERFORM AT EVENT ON AUGUST 26 AT 3RD & LINDSLEY
WALDRUP’S “I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU” FEATURED IN SCALES: MERMAIDS ARE REAL

Nashville, TN – Country music singer/songwriter Karen Waldrup has spent the last few years chasing her musical dreams of making the record she moved to Nashville to create and it’s paying off. After her acoustic version of “I Hope You Dance” scored over 23 million views on Facebook since last November, the viral sensation has scored three nominations for this year’s Nashville Industry Music Awards (NIMA). The nominations include “Best Live Country Performer,” “Best Video” for “I Got That Kind Of Time,” directed by Billy Brown and “Best Female Country Solo Artist.” NIMA, developed in 2004, strives to recognize the Middle Tennessee music industry along with supporting and nurturing the music community. Waldrup will also perform two songs at the event on August 26 at 3rd & Lindsley. Vote for NIMA here.

“I’m honored to be nominated for the Nashville Industry Music Awards and I’m excited to be on the forefront of a new movement in the music industry. We started our own approach to building a tribe and letting people be part of my music community that we lovingly dub the ‘Waldrup Method,’ ” exclaims Waldrup. “This method has really allowed me to feel happy in the creation of music. To be recognized for all the hard work that goes into being an independent artist is humbling.”

In other firsts, “I’ve Been Waiting For You,” the heartfelt ballad penned by Waldrup and co-writers Kevan Peterson and Julie Downs and recorded by Waldrup, is appearing in Scales: Mermaids Are Real. The feature film follows the life of Siren Phillips as she discovers her destiny to become a mermaid.

“This song was specifically written for this film and the exact scene of the motion picture. I cherish the opportunity because it was a challenge to compose a song to describe a feeling I didn’t actually experience,” explains Waldrup. “The song plays right when the lead meets her mother for the first time who is actually a mermaid in the ocean.  I don’t know what it’s like to meet my mother for the first time in the ocean, but I do know what it’s like to wait a lifetime for love.”

“I’ve Been Waiting For You” is available here.

Scales: Mermaids Are Real is opening in select AMC Theaters across the country on July 21st as well as available for purchase at Best Buy and Amazon.
